CURRENT RESIDENTS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I want to stay another year, but with someone else can I renew my lease? What happens with the money?

Residents can opt to renew the lease at any time. One resident can act to sign the lease for another year. Your old roommates do have to sign off on any deposits that are paid because the money paid at the time you moved in is assigned to the apartment and would carry over.

My toilet is broken and it's 2 am…maintenance isn’t here…what do I do?

Call our after hours emergency service. Whenever a major emergency repair is needed, PPMT has a 24 hour on call service offered FREE to residents.

Can I pay my rent in cash?

The best way for our accounting practices and your records is for us to only receive rent payments with cashier’s checks, money orders or pre-printed personal checks (sorry, no temp checks)

Can I move out before my lease is over because I got a new job in a different city, an internship, I graduated, I failed out…etc

While we do not have a cancellation or transfer clause in our leases, we do allow our residents two different options to add additional residents or to find a qualified renter to replace their place in the lease through an assignment.

Can my roommate just bring in a pet, move in a new roommate/significant other?

No. On a joint lease, all roommates must agree to the addition of a qualified renter or the addition of a pet. A lease addendum must be signed by all residents prior to bringing a pet into the apartment or adding an additional name to the lease.

I paid MY rent, but my roommate didn’t. Why am I getting calls and notices?

Most leases that are signed at PPMT are jointly and severally liable leases. This means that in the eyes of the lease/legal procedures, you and your roommate act as one person. We try to contact all parties, note that all of our legal notices state one main name, normally the resident who signs the lease as “renter one” and then lists “all others residing at the following address”. It does not mean that we are picking on one person, but rather out of necessity, we list one name. All residents are equally responsible for the full amount of rent due on a joint lease and therefore we contact everyone even though a portion of the rent as been paid by a particular resident.
